"Indeed, much has been made of Carter's vocalisations as being outside of language. This erases both the purposefulness and the poetics of her embrace of words in much of her music. This use is notable in Tamarisk, her trio with improvisors David Menestres and Andrew Weathers. There's clear sympathy in their playing together, with Menestres's double bass particularly seductive on Plays A Word for Sun, oscillating between ibrating string scrapes and fluid stretches of note splay. There are some startling moments where Carter's voice rises out of near silence, sending incantatory vibrations out into shared space. Partway through, she chills the blood as she voices the words hear you" with rising intensity."

The trombone-contrabass duo, that in itself is worthy of attention, because we don't see this combination very often. And it's a truly monumental record. Not in the sense of noise intensity or length (although it is a good one), but in the way it manages to encompass microworlds, both sonic and abstract. jiristepan
